Breakwater Lighthouse, Lake Champlain

Breakwater Lighthouse, Lake Champlain

While visiting Smuggler’s Notch over the New Year’s break in 2007, we made a quick day trip to Burlington Vermont to check out the local scenery and Lake Champlain — a 440 square mile fresh water lake situated on the border of Vermont, New York and Canada. We were lucky enough to time it well with the sunset and fortunately the camera was handy.

The lighthouse in this photo is one of many along Lake Champlain’s man-made breakwaters, first built in the mid-1800’s. The lighthouses were built by Atlantic Mechanical of Wiscasset, Maine and were manned until 1938.

Another great shot from that same weekend was an HDR of Smugglers Notch in Jefferson, Vermont.
